Kids In Motion began in 1996 as a result of a meeting called by local law enforcement officials, and other community leaders to address rising concerns about gang presence and participation in Hannibal. Members of the business community, together with representatives of the non-profit sector, proposed a summer youth program to counter these concerns. KIM targets youth "at-risk" of gang participation, juvenile crime, school drop out, and other risky lifestyle choices. KIM is under the umbrella of Douglass Community Services, Inc. and is a United Way recepient.

"Programs like Kids In Motion are an example of area youth being involved in a positive alternative.
The Kids in Motion program helps area children develop a work ethic and increase feelings of self-worth.
As a community, it is important we support programs such as Kids In Motion because
by doing so we offer the children one more avenue to make the right choices in life."
